The Longtime Chief of a Polish Art Museum Has Been Unceremoniously Axed by the Country’s Right-Wing Government

The longtime leader of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Poland has been unceremoniously ousted from his posture, marking the latest in a sequence of modern high-profile museum departures imposed by the country’s proper-wing governing administration.

During his 16-calendar year tenure atop Muzeum Sztuki, Suchan recognized partnerships with the Museum of Present day Artwork in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He oversaw renovations to the museum’s M1 and M3 locations—home to the institution’s selection of fashionable art and aged masters, respectively—as very well as the development of a 2nd museum department in Łódź’s Manufaktura district.

“Replacing a director helps make perception when the institution is in inadequate situation, but Muzeum Sztuki has had a fairly prosperous operate, marked by really rated exhibitions and potent intercontinental collaborations,” Suchan told the Artwork Newspaper past 12 months, right after his contract was not renewed.
